OAKFIELD (NEWS CENTER) -- Katahdin Forest Products purchased SWP Industries' sawmill in Ashland last week.
Katahdin Forest Products makes log homes and cedar fencing. Owner, David Gordon, says this mill is necessary so that his company will have the materials it needs to meet the 4% increase in sales it experienced in the past year.
"It's very close some of the mills we were buying from were actually 200 miles away so that's a lot better and it's more dependeable for us. We know that we can start sawing an order when we want to, not when it's convenient for someone else," he said.

Katahdin Forest Products, parent company of Katahdin Cedar Log Homes & Katahdin Cedar Fence, has earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood program. This certification will enable the log home manufacturer to offer Northern White Cedar used in constructing its log homes from responsibly managed forests.
Presently, Katahdin is the only log home manufacturer in the United States to hold a SmartWood Certification.
